Bob Woodward just revealed an insane order from Trump that the Pentagon disobeyed

Among the many shocking revelations included in veteran investigative journalist Bob Woodward’s new book Fear: Trump in the White House is the unprecedented news that the Pentagon directly ignored an order from their commander-in-chief.

The incident in question came in April of last year after Syrian President Bashar al-Assad allegedly launched a chemical attack on his own civilian citizens. While people all over the world were justifiably outraged by the war crime that violated all international rules of engagement, President Trump almost literally went nuclear, according to Woodward.

The Washington Post quoted from an advance copy of Woodward’s book that they obtained and described the environment that led to the chilling exchange between Trump and Secretary of Defense James Mattis:

“With Trump’s rage and defiance impossible to contain, Cabinet members and other senior officials learned to act discreetly. Woodward describes an alliance among Trump’s traditionalists — including Mattis and Gary Cohn, the president’s former top economic adviser — to stymie what they considered dangerous acts.”

“’It felt like we were walking along the edge of the cliff perpetually,’ Porter is quoted as saying. ‘Other times, we would fall over the edge, and an action would be taken.’”

“After Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad launched a chemical attack on civilians in April 2017, Trump called Mattis and said he wanted to assassinate the dictator. ‘Let’s fucking kill him! Let’s go in. Let’s kill the fucking lot of them,’ Trump said, according to Woodward.”

Mattis, who knows the rules of international law, told the president that he would address it immediately, but when he got off the phone with Trump he told an aide “We’re not going to do any of that. We’re going to be much more measured,” Woodward writes. Instead, the Defense Secretary developed a plan for a conventional airstrike that eventually appeased Trump’s bloodlust.

The portrait that Woodward’s book paints of a White House where top aides surreptitiously remove documents from the president’s desk to prevent him from signing them displays a level of dysfunction and paranoia in the Oval Office that is truly frightening.

Even more frightening is another story that Woodward recounts of Trump questioning why the U.S. was spending so much money on detecting missile launches in North Korea. That Matiss was forced to respond to the question by telling the president that “we’re doing this in order to prevent World War III” proves that his later statement to close associates that Trump acted like — and had the understanding of — “a fifth- or sixth-grader” was manifestly accurate.

Woodward’s Fear: Trump in the White House will be available for the public at large to read even more frightening stories from the inner workings of the Trump administration beginning September 11th.

The White House just issued its first response to Bob Woodward’s scandalous book

Legendary journalist Bob Woodward is releasing his exhaustive analysis of the Trump administration soon and this morning The Washington Post — which received an early copy — recounted some of the juiciest segments of the 448-page book. The portrait that emerges is one of an absurdly incompetent, unprecedentedly chaotic administration populated with backstabbing egomaniacs and crooks.

Needless to say, President Trump is presented in a deeply unflattering way. He’s shown to be erratic, unfocused, and constantly agitated. According to Woodward, Trump has said his Attorney General Jeff Sessions is “mentally retarded” and mocked his former National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster for wearing cheap suits “like a beer salesman.”

“This guy is mentally retarded. He’s this dumb Southerner. … He couldn’t even be a one-person country lawyer down in Alabama,” Trump said of Sessions.

Trump is reportedly still frustrated with Sessions over his decision to recuse himself from the Trump-Russia investigation after it was revealed that he had met with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Trump wanted Sessions to stay involved with the probe so that he could meddle and run interference.

During one particular segment of Woodward’s book, former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon is depicted as being particularly frustrated with Ivanka Trump’s behavior. Ivanka has been serving as a sort of political surrogate for her father, traipsing around the world as an unpaid official, exploiting her father’s newfound political power.

“You’re a goddamn staffer. You walk around this place and act like you’re in charge, and you’re not. You’re on staff!” Bannon is said to have yelled at Ivanka.

“I’m not a staffer! I’ll never be a staffer. I’m the first daughter,” Ivanka shot back. The book is said to be full of similiar such interactions between different members of the regime.

Zeke Miller of the AP reports that the White House has now officially responded to the book in a predictable fashion. White House Press Secretary and professional liar Sarah Huckabee Sanders flatly denied the books salacious claims.

“This book is nothing more than fabricated stories, many by former disgruntled employees, told to make the President look bad. While it is not always pretty, and rare that the press actually covers it, President Trump has broken through the bureaucratic process to deliver unprecedented successes for the American people. Sometimes it is unconventional, but he always gets results. Democrats and their allies in the media understand the President’s policies are working and with success like this, no can beat him in 2020— not even close,” Huckabee Sanders said in a statement.

Of course, there no reason to believe a word that Huckabee Sanders says due to her long history of blatantly lying on behalf of Trump. The White House has nothing even vaguely resembling credibility these days. In fact, the more vehemently they deny a story, the more likely it seems to be true.

Trump’s White House just told a shameless lie to justify Kavanaugh’s diss towards Parkland father

As Republican defenders of Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh drone on in his confirmation hearing about the strength of character that the Trump pick to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy possesses, Kavanaugh foolishly undermined their fawning praise with his behavior towards the father of a shooting victim in the Parkland, Florida school shootings.

Fred Guttenberg, who lost his 14-year-old daughter to the tragic and unnecessary gun violence at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, tried to introduce himself to the Supreme Court nominee during a break in the Senate confirmation hearings. Guttenberg described Kavanaugh’s despicable reaction in a post on his Twitter feed.

The still-grieving father has been a strong political presence in the fight for sensible gun regulations since the loss of his child, so many critics on the right may see his account of the encounter as an exaggerated partisan slam based on Guttenberg’s desire to see the conservative judge’s nomination rejected rather than on any actual interaction.

Luckily Andrew Harnick, an AP photographer covering the hearings, captured the moment. If one picture is worth a thousand words, the look of contempt on Kavanaugh’s face is an encyclopedia of disdain.

Kavanaugh’s slight towards the anti-gun activist is even more pronounced in the video version of the encounter. One would think the proffered hand was laden with Ebola by the way the Supreme Court nominee reacts to it.

The video proves that the response issued by the White House about the incident — which claimed that an “unidentified individual approached” Kavanaugh, but “before the judge was able to shake his hand, security had intervened” — was nothing but a bold-faced lie.

The president and his allies have made it clear that they care nothing about the tens of thousands of lives lost every year to needless gun violence; this incident makes it clear that his Supreme Court Justice nominee doesn’t either.

You can judge for yourself in the video clip of the encounter below.

Bob Woodward just revealed Ivanka Trump’s embarrassing princess hissy fit in White House

Bob Woodward of Watergate fame is releasing a book about the Trump administration built around interviews with officials and those in the orbit of the regime. Appropriately entitled Fear: Trump in the White House, the book paints a disturbing picture of an astoundingly inept presidency hanging on by a thread.

The Washington Post received the book early and relayed some of its most memorable pieces. As Woodward explains in Fear, the Trump administration is a cesspit of infighting, petty egos, and predatory personalities largely incapable of getting anything substantive accomplished. Drawing on numerous sources, Woodward has revealed that things are far worse than most people ever imagined.

During one particular segment, former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon is depicted as deeply frustrated with Ivanka Trump’s behavior. Ivanka has been serving as a sort of political surrogate for her father, traipsing around the world as an unpaid official, exploiting her father’s newfound political power. Bannon got fed up with her presumptuous nature.

“You’re a goddamn staffer. You walk around this place and act like you’re in charge, and you’re not. You’re on staff!” Bannon is said to have yelled at Ivanka.

“I’m not a staffer! I’ll never be a staffer. I’m the first daughter,” Ivanka shot back, perfectly encapsulating the degree of entitlement she feels due to her father’s presidential ascension.

It’s clear that Ivanka thinks quite highly of herself, this despite the fact that her only real claim to fame is being the daughter of the worst president in American history. She gives lip service to feminism and social activism but remains complicit in an administration guilty of heinous human rights violations.

Ivanka is just as much a crook as everyone else involved with this corrupt administration, she just presents herself in a better light. If future generations remember her at all it will be for her failure to stand up to her monstrous father.

Bob Woodward’s new book just revealed a top Trump adviser stole a letter from his desk to protect national security

It is a delicious irony that one of the most constant sources of aggravation for President Donald Trump has been the publication of disparaging behind-the-scenes books about him and his administration.

A man who wears his ignorance proudly on his sleeve, the President is notorious for his aversion to books and to reading in general, which makes it quite appropriate that the steady stream of increasingly embarrassing tell-all books is a constant headache for our would-be despot.

The latest tome to raise eyebrows around the nation is legendary journalist Bob Woodward’s new book, Fear: Trump in the White House, which contains a slew of staggering interviews with White House officials who were surprisingly candid about the absurd lengths they must go to the President from making disastrous decisions, including stealing documents off of his desk so he won’t sign them.

According to Woodward, [former Chief Economic Advisor Gary] Cohn “stole a letter off Trump’s desk” that the president was intending to sign to formally withdraw the United States from a trade agreement with South Korea. Cohn later told an associate that he removed the letter to protect national security and that Trump did not notice that it was missing.

That wasn’t even the only time Cohn had to do this. The Washington Post reports that in spring 2017, Trump was dead-set on withdrawing the United States from the North American Free Trade Agreement, and was forced once again to snatch it away before the president could sign it.

Under orders from the president, Porter drafted a notification letter withdrawing from NAFTA. But he and other advisers worried that it could trigger an economic and foreign relations crisis. So Porter consulted Cohn, who told him, according to Woodward: “I can stop this. I’ll just take the paper off his desk.

The implications of all of this are simply stunning. Either the president of the United States lacks object permanence or he cares so little about the functions of the government he’s supposed to be running that he can’t even be bothered to keep track of his most basic responsibilities, like signing papers.

For his staffers to be speaking so frankly about what the President is really like is both a damning indictment of Trump’s inability to control his staff and a clarion call of an alarm for the nation at large.

When you read things like “[Defense Secretary James] Mattis was particularly exasperated and alarmed, telling close associates that the president acted like — and had the understanding of — ‘a fifth- or sixth-grader,'” you know things are very, very bad in the White House.

America has no president.

James Comey just took a personal shot at Trump in brutal response to his Labor Day attack on Sessions

Former FBI director James Comey, whose refusal to agree to help President Trump cover up his campaign team’s shady deeds sparked the beginning of the Mueller investigation, watched in horror as the president launched a shameful Labor Day attack on the rule of law in the United States and threatened the independence of the Justice Department that Comey spent so many years serving.

Trump’s tweet reveals two things: firstly, that he’s convinced that former Attorney General Eric Holder protected President Obama from scandal because he abused his power to do so, not because President Obama didn’t have any scandals that required investigation; secondly, that President Trump has absolutely no respect for the rule of law or the Justice Department’s mission to enforce the laws and prosecute crimes when they discover them, no matter what letter is next to that politician’s name.

Comey took to Twitter and leveled a barely-disguised shot at Trump with a quote from New Thought philosopher C.D. Larson that calls him a “second-rate man” of inferior character who is responsible for the decline of our nation.

We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Trump just used a NY Times report to cover up his treason and the reporter responded with a brutal fact check

President Trump continued his afternoon Twitter spree by trying to once again discredit the media’s reporting and the Special Counsel’s investigation by repeating out-of-context refutations that he almost certainly just watched someone say on FOX News — but it didn’t go the way he expected it to.

Trump’s latest tweet references a New York Times article that documents the FBI’s unsuccessful attempts to turn Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska into an informant against Putin’s ruling coven.

Trump, or whoever he saw defending him on TV, asserted that the fact that the investigation into Russian oligarchs preceded the declaration of his candidacy somehow is supposed to prove that the Justice Department’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election and allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian agents is a politically motivated hit job.

Of course, if Trump had actually bothered to read the article he would have realized that it says nothing of the sort and actually makes things worse for him, since the FBI then used their discussions with Deripaska to try to get dirt on Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, who secretly received millions of dollars from Deripaska in exchange for lobbying on behalf of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s Ukranian puppet leader, Viktor Yanukovych, and his Party of Regions political party.

The article’s author, Matthew Rosenberg, took to Twitter to set the record straight and point out the absurdity of the President’s pathetic cover-up:

It really is remarkable how desperate President Trump is for anything at all that he might be able to use to defend himself from the looming conclusions of the Mueller investigation — and how every defense he comes up with just ends up digging himself a deeper hole.

Trump just threw a massive fit because Jeff Sessions is going after criminal Republicans ahead of midterms

Not content with his deplorable attacks on organized labor on Labor Day, President Trump switched gears mid-afternoon and attacked his own Justice Department for doing their jobs and investigating Republicans for their misdeeds.

Calling out Attorney General Jeff Sessions by name, Trump made it clear that he believes that the Justice Department should be subservient to him and should be ignoring crimes by Republicans simply because they are Republicans and bringing them to justice is politically damaging to the already irredeemable Republican brand, and by extension politically damaging to Trump.

The president’s tweet refers to the two investigations into the Congressmen who just so happen to have been Trump’s earliest backers, Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-CA) and Rep.Chris Collins (R-NY), who have been indicted for egregious campaign finance violations and insider trading, respectively.

Since the president himself is almost certainly guilty of both of those crimes himself, he has good reason to want to establish a precedent of looking the other way as well as the irreversible damage to the Representatives’ re-election bids, the success of which Trump sees as a reflection of his own popularity and influence.

The president has been setting the stage for the replacement of Attorney General Jeff Sessions for some time now, still furious that Sessions recused himself from the Trump-Russia investigation after it was discovered that the then-Alabama Senator had held secret meetings with Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak during the election.

His latest tweets are another sharp reminder that President Trump is corrupt to the core and has not an iota of respect for the independence of the Justice Department or the very concept of rule of law itself.

Rudy Giuliani just set off a Constitutional crisis with a terrifying threat to Robert Mueller

A new profile of former New York mayor and presidential defense lawyer Rudy Giuliani turned heads around the country when it hit the internet on Labor Day afternoon.

In his New Yorker interview with Jeffery Toobin, the president’s favorite lapdog revealed that Donald Trump is likely to block the release of Special Counsel Mueller’s final report on the allegations of electoral interference by the Trump campaign and agents of the Russian Federation to the public by using the protections afforded to him by executive privilege.

Giuliani said that early on in the investigation, the president’s defense team had “struck a deal” with Mueller that included the ability for the White House to redact certain portions of the eagerly anticipated conclusions of the Special Counsel’s two-year investigation, setting the stage for a battle between Congressional Democrats and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

Toobin asked whether or not he thought the president would block the release of the Mueller report, and Giuliani’s response was very disturbing: “I’m sure we will.”

Due to the sensitive nature of the classified information within the final report and the laws that govern grand juries, it’s up to Rosenstein to decide what he wants to release to the public — and Trump can even order him to bury it entirely, or fire him and replace him with someone who will, which would almost certainly lead to a Constitutional crisis and trigger impeachment proceedings.

Mueller is well aware of this threat to his investigation, which is why he’s been using the indictments to reveal information to the public, piece by piece. “He is telling a story through the indictments that he files in court, which are painting a vivid picture of Russian efforts to interfere in the election” noted Cornell Law School vice-dean Jens David Ohlin to VOX.com.

Giuliani just made it clear that there’s nothing the president won’t do in order to keep the evidence of his misdeeds from the public, which is why it’s more important than ever that we win back control of Congress this November so we can punish him when he does.

Trump just woke up on Labor Day and attacked the head of the largest union in the country

On Labor Day, the federal holiday upon which we take a day to honor the blood, sweat, and tears of America’s appallingly overworked and underpaid workers, the President of the United States took to Twitter to attack the head of the nation’s largest federation of unions, Richard Trumka of the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations.

The president’s attack was inspired by Trumka’s Sunday remarks, in which he rightfully accused the president of hurting American workers more than having helped them. “Gas prices have been up since the first year. So overall, workers aren’t doing as well” said Trumka on FOX News Sunday.

He went on to slam Trump for failing to produce his promised infrastructure bill that would have created new jobs and for overturning health and safety regulations that keep workers from getting hurt on the job.

Trumka also criticized the President’s efforts to poison our economic and diplomatic relationship with our Canadian neighbor, saying that any reworking of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) must include Canada.

The president, infamous for his inability to accept even the slightest criticism without publicly firing back and turning it into one of his endless feuds, took to Twitter this morning and shamefully blamed Trumka himself for the decline of the American union.

There are many factors that prompted the decline of the unions in the United States, but one of the main culprits has been the crippling of union power by “right to work” laws and other anti-labor legislation passed by the right-wing ghouls that dominate America’s manufacturing states and now the federal government.

So it’s disgustingly hypocritical but unsurprising to see Trump, a man who has spent his entire career screwing over workers and union-busting, blaming the unions for the things that he and his fellow Republicans have inflicted upon the nation.

Nothing shows the American worker how little the President actually cares about them like attacking one of their biggest defenders on the holiday that’s supposed to celebrate them, though all the union-busting legislation he’s signed should have been enough of a sign.

It’s time to run the oligarchs and their bootlicking servants out of our government and replace them with true progressives who will uplift the American worker and give them the dignity and the security they deserve.

Paul Manafort’s daughter just humiliated him with a brutal official legal filing

Paul Manafort has not been having a good year.

Languishing in prison as he awaits both his sentencing hearing after having been found guilty on eight counts of tax and bank fraud — as well as a second trial on the accusations of money laundering, witness tampering, and illegal foreign lobbying — Trump’s former campaign chairman’s only hope of avoiding a lengthy stay in federal prison is if his ex-employer risks awarding a pardon that is sure to bring condemnation of the president’s undermining the rule of law.

Adding insult to injury, The Hill is now reporting that Manafort’s adult daughter has officially applied to change her last name to disassociate herself from her disgraced father.

The 36-year-old Jessica Anne Manafort filed paperwork to adopt her mother’s maiden name as her legal surname.

“I would like my new name to be Jessica Anne Bond, in place of my present name,” the convicted felon’s daughter wrote in her application, explaining that the new moniker “more closely suits my profession.”

Jessica Anne Bond, as she will be known if the petition submitted to the Manhattan Supreme Court on Friday is approved, has already used the surname as a pseudonym in conjunction with her work as an independent filmmaker. Credited as Jess Bond, she released a film called Rosy starring Jackass star Johnny Knoxville and Monk star Tony Shalhoub earlier this summer that is currently available on video-on-demand platforms.

When the film was released, she told The Los Angeles Times that she chose to use a screen name rather than her legal surname “not to hide, but to separate myself from everything going on because it has nothing to do with me or my work.”

“I am a passionate liberal and a registered Democrat and this has been difficult for me. Although I am ‘the daughter of,’ I am very much my own person and hopefully people can realize that,” the filmmaker said, before announcing the plans to legally change her name that were finally put into motion this week.

While the filmmaker waits for her application to be approved, her father can only be further realizing the depth of shame that his illicit actions have brought upon his family, a a shame so great that they no longer even want to be associated with his name.

Stormy Daniels’ lawyer just made an announcement that will ruin Trump’s Sunday

While Donald Trump has announced that he will be leading a campaign rally at “the biggest stadium in Texas we can find” for the man he once dubbed “Lying Ted Cruz,” Michael Avenatti — the president’s persistent antagonist in Stormy Daniels’ lawsuit to release the porn star from her non-disclosure agreement — has vowed to organize a competing “resistance rally” at the exact same time that Trump and Cruz momentarily pretend to like each other to help the Texas Senator retain his seat.

Pledging to “fight fire with fire,” Avenatti has been one of the few public figures in the opposition to Trump who has successfully adopted the president’s own tactics to use against him. As such, the attorney announced his plans using the same platform that Trump regularly exploits to communicate with his own base, Twitter.

Senator Cruz is facing a surprisingly tough re-election battle against the Democratic candidate, El Paso native Beto O’Rourke, despite the fact that no Democrat has been elected to the US Senate from Texas since 1990.

President Trump has endorsed Cruz despite their leftover bad blood from the Republican presidential primaries, presumably because he knows that the loss of a Republican-controlled Senate could mean a guilty verdict in any impending impeachment proceedings.

With Avenatti mulling a presidential run himself, he is positioning himself as the candidate who could actually match Trump blow for blow as a street fighter with an equal mastery of social media and cable news manipulation.

Avenatti’s announcement of a competing resistance rally surprisingly makes no reference to Beto O’Rourke’s candidacy and is devoid of details beyond a promise that they will be announced later.

By organizing a rally that that may be seen as a protest against Trump more than an active attempt to elect the Democratic candidate for the Senate, Avenatti may be working a bit too closely to the mold of Trump’s previous political rallies, where the president barely mentions the candidates he is ostensibly supporting as he spends his time at the podium exaggerating his own accomplishments in office and railing against “fake news” and “phony witch hunts.”

However, If Avenatti manages to partner with the O’Rourke campaign to create an effective counter-demonstration to Trump’s theatrics, it could provide the extra momentum that the Democratic candidate needs to help O’Rourke claim victory in the tight race.

Stay tuned to see how this story develops.

The Kansas Supreme Court just gave Trump’s Kris Kobach the worst news of his political career

The Kansas Supreme Court has found sufficient evidence to convene a grand jury to hold hearings on whether Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach intentionally manipulated voter registration in the state during the 2016 elections, according to an article on Vox.

Kobach, now the Republican candidate for governor in Kansas in this year’s election, was a leading proponent of the discredited conspiracy theory — also promulgated by President Trump — that millions of ineligible voters illegally voted in the 2016 presidential elections. He was appointed by the president to lead the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity to investigate the voter fraud allegations.

The commision never found any credible evidence supporting the claims, and it was dissolved by the President before any report of its actions was issued after many states objected to releasing their voter rolls to the partisanly run commision which also excluded Democratic members from crucial meetings and decision making.

Critics of the commission rightfully accused it of being set up to legitimize the types of voter suppression activities that the Kansas Supreme Court has authorized a grand jury to investigate.

The accusations that led to the grand jury investigation of Kobach stem from a petition by Steven Davis, an unsuccessful Democratic candidate for the Kansas House, who claims that Kobach and his office had engaged in “destroying, obstructing, or failing to deliver online voter registration,” as well as possessing falsely made or altered registration books, preventing qualified electors from voting, and “being grossly neglectful with respect to their election duties.”

Kobach has called the allegations politically motivated, claiming that the problems with online registration stemmed from technical malfunctions and were short-lived. He has fought Davis’s petition in court since it was initially filed in 2016 and lost his final appeal when the Kansas Supreme Court denied his request to reverse a lower court decision to empower the grand jury.

The timing of the decision to bring the charges to a grand jury couldn’t be worse for Kobach, who faces another tight race for Governor after barely squeaking through with a victory in the Republican primary contest. With a three-way race for the state’s highest office against Democrat Laura Kelly and independent candidate Greg Orman, Kobach is counting on President Trump’s endorsement to carry him over the finish line.

With the Kansas economy still suffering from the draconian spending cuts made by the Republican-controlled state government, he may find that a presidential endorsement may not be enough to overcome the stigma associated with his voter registration controversy.

David Hogg just trolled Trump and humiliated Ted Cruz with an epic billboard in the heart of Texas

The curious spectacle of President Trump hitting the campaign stump to help Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) retain his seat in the upcoming midterm elections will be complicated by a new billboard ad funded by a GoFundMe page organized by USA Latinx, a political organization that supports the election of Latin candidates and heavily promoted on social media by Parkland shooting survivor David Hogg and the progressive Mad Dog PAC Chairman Claude Taylor.

According to a report on The Hill, the group raised nearly $10,000 in less than 24 hours, far exceeding its $6,000 goal. The money will go to pay for a mobile billboard that will simply display a vintage tweet from Donald Trump about Ted Cruz in its entirety, a tweet made during his campaign to win the Republican presidential primary in 2016.

A photo mockup of the proposed billboard posted on the GoFundMe page shows how the group plans to use Trump’s own words to undermine his planned rally to drum up support for Cruz, who is facing an unprecedented challenge from the Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke.

The fundraising plea that accompanied the post explained the group’s motive.

“President Donald Trump will be campaigning to help Sen. Ted Cruz win his re-election. A rally is being planned, according to Trump “at the biggest stadium in Texas.” We are planning to display the president’s own words about Cruz from 2016 on a mobile billboard, to remind Texans of the truth.”

With Trump now desperate to maintain a Republican majority in the Senate to prevent any chance of his impending impeachment, he is conveniently ignoring his own previous opinions about some of his primary opponents like Cruz out of his own self-interest. Since Trump never does anything except in his own self-interest, his turnaround on Senator Cruz is unsurprising, given the tightening noose of the Mueller investigation.

The billboard that USA Latinx, Hogg, and Taylor are planning will help showcase Trump’s hypocrisy and hopefully help convince enough Texas voters to vote for O’Rourke (or at least withhold their vote for Cruz) that the Democrat will achieve an unprecedented upset.

Of course, that can only happen if enough progressive voters actually get to the polls, so make sure that you and everyone you know makes it their top priority to vote in the midterms or suffer the otherwise unbearable consequences.

Fox News host just gave Trump a brutal reality check about Mueller’s Russia probe

Add Chris Wallace to the list of Fox News hosts willing to value their journalistic credibility over their job security by daring to criticize President Trump on the network that is normally his most reliable propaganda outlet.

Wallace had the temerity to remind the president that he can really only blame himself for the ongoing investigation by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and his team into the undermining of America’s electoral integrity by Russia and into the Trump campaign’s possible links to the meddling and the administration’s efforts to impede the investigation.

“The only person the president can blame for that is himself,” Wallace said on Fox News Friday.

According to a report on The Hill, the Fox News host made the claim as Trump once again attacked his pick for Attorney General, former Senator Jeff Sessions, for recusing himself from Russia investigation after assuming the role of head of the Justice Department.

Wallace, unlike the president, remembers that it wasn’t Sessions’ recusal that resulted in the appointment of Mueller to the Special Counsel job, but Trump’s firing of FBI Director James Comey that triggered the decision to bring in Mueller, a respected former FBI leader himself, to lead the probe that began during Comey’s watch at the bureau.

“You know, things have changed, and obviously the decision in the spring of 2017 to recuse himself and everything that has flowed from that has made a big difference,” Wallace said.

“Remember, the recusal of Sessions did not lead to the special counsel. It was the firing of Comey, of James Comey, the FBI director that led to the appointment of the special counsel,” the Fox News host insightfully explained.

Sessions felt duty bound to recuse himself from the investigation after a previously undisclosed conversation with former Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak came to light after the Attorney General had already testified during his confirmation hearings that he had held no conversations with Kremlin officials during the Trump campaign.

With his credibility in tatters and the potential for perjury charges for lying to Congress, Sessions felt recusal was his only option. President Trump obviously feels otherwise, given the number of denigrating tweets he’s sent aimed at his Attorney General, whom he thinks has the primary role of being loyal to the president himself rather than the rule of law and the Constitution that both he and Sessions swore to uphold.

In keeping with Wallace’s characterization of Trump as his own worst enemy, Trump’s attempts to fire Sessions for his disloyalty and what the president sees as his failure to protect him are now being investigated by the Special Counsel’s office as evidence of Trump’s obstruction of justice in halting the Russia “Witch Hunt” as he likes to call (and capitalize) it.

While Trump has recently said that he would keep Sessions on as Attorney General at least until after the midterm elections in November, that may be simply the result of pressure from Republican leaders in Congress who know that any action to shut down the Mueller investigation will trigger a public controversy that could impede any chance they may have left to retain control of of the legislative branch.

Hopefully, that ship has long since sailed even without any further potential obstruction from the president. That Fox News hosts are now willing to defy Trump on the issue is a good sign about where things are headed.

A brave reporter just exposed Trump’s secret scheme to frame Bloomberg and smear Canada

The president’s war against the media took a bizarre turn yesterday when he accused several reporters at Bloomberg of improperly leaking his off-the-record comments about how he’s deliberately sabotaging the trade negotiations with our Canadian neighbors so that he can pretend that he “won” because “it’s going to be so insulting they’re not going to be able to make a deal.”

“Here’s the problem. If I say no — the answer’s no. If I say no, then you’re going to put that, and it’s going to be so insulting they’re not going to be able to make a deal … I can’t kill these people,” Trump said of the Canadian officials.

The leaked comments threw an enormous wrench in the negotiations between the two nations as Canadian officials grew furious at Trump for gloating about not approaching the negotiations in good faith.

Trump, of course, immediately went to Twitter and accused the Bloomberg reporters of violating the sacred distinction between reportable on-the-record comments and unprintable off-the-record comments:

The president even went on a full-blown rant about it on Friday afternoon, in which he tried to argue that because he “likes their anthem” he couldn’t possibly be behind the efforts to provoke a serious economic conflict with Canada.

The Bloomberg reporters stood their ground, and the peculiarity of the situation led many to hypothesize that it was Trump himself who had leaked the information, since he’s been known to do that in the past.

The reporter at the Toronto Star who broke the news, Daniel Dale, took to Twitter to defend the honor of his peers at Bloomberg and poured fuel on the speculation that it was the White House who had leaked the information itself.

It’s looking more and more likely that the President is using the media as a publicity weapon in his needless and inexplicable economic war against our closest ally and one of our biggest trade partners.

Perhaps he’s feeling jealous of Senator McCain’s funeral hogging the spotlight, or maybe he’s looking for an issue that he can use to rile up his base and make it look like he’s taking a stand to defend the American worker when in reality he’s just purposefully tanking one of our most important international relationships for the hell of it.

Mollie Tibbetts father just shredded Trump Jr. in a blistering op-ed

Mollie Tibbett’s father does not want his daughter to have died in vain.

Rob Tibbetts, the father of the slain 20-year-old college student who has become a poster child for right-wing anti-immigration activists after her death at the hands of an undocumented farm worker, took to the editorial pages of his home state’s biggest newspaper the Des Moines Register to urge the nation to stop distorting the accounts of his daughter’s death to advance racist views.

Tibbetts begins his emotional editorial with an account of he and his family’s initial response to the news of his daughter’s murder.

“Ten days ago, we learned that Mollie would not be coming home. Shattered, my family set out to celebrate Mollie’s extraordinary life and chose to share our sorrow in private. At the outset, politicians and pundits used Mollie’s death to promote various political agendas. We appealed to them and they graciously stopped. For that, we are grateful.”

Unfortunately, Tibbetts learned that, while responsible people would accede to his requests, there were others who had no regard for the family’s wishes.

“Sadly, others have ignored our request,” Tibbetts continued. “They have instead chosen to callously distort and corrupt Mollie’s tragic death to advance a cause she vehemently opposed. I encourage the debate on immigration; there is great merit in its reasonable outcome. But do not appropriate Mollie’s soul in advancing views she believed were profoundly racist. The act grievously extends the crime that stole Mollie from our family and is, to quote Donald Trump Jr., “heartless” and “despicable.”

The “heartless” and “despicable” comments about Mollie’s death were leveled by the president’s oldest son in an editorial in the same Des Moines Register just yesterday as he used the tragedy as an excuse to attack Democrats in general — and Senator Elizabeth Warren in particular — over their opposition to his father’s immigration policies that truly deserve those adjectives.

Tibbetts continued his impassioned response to Trump Jr.’s politicization of his daughter’s death with another exhortation for common decency, something sorely lacking in the Trump administration.

“Make no mistake, Mollie was my daughter and my best friend,” the distraught father writes. “At her eulogy, I said Mollie was nobody’s victim. Nor is she a pawn in others’ debate. She may not be able to speak for herself, but I can and will. Please leave us out of your debate. Allow us to grieve in privacy and with dignity. At long last, show some decency. On behalf of my family and Mollie’s memory, I’m imploring you to stop.

Tibbet’s explained his explicit plea to the president’s son and other racist trolls to stop their exploitation of his daughter’s death with a perfect example of why the twisted logic they use to blame every immigrant for Mollie’s death is so terribly wrong.

“The person who is accused of taking Mollie’s life is no more a reflection of the Hispanic community as white supremacists are of all white people. To suggest otherwise is a lie. Justice in my America is blind. This person will receive a fair trial, as it should be. If convicted, he will face the consequences society has set. Beyond that, he deserves no more attention.”

“To the Hispanic community, my family stands with you and offers its heartfelt apology. That you’ve been beset by the circumstances of Mollie’s death is wrong. We treasure the contribution you bring to the American tapestry in all its color and melody. And yes, we love your food.”

Tibbett’s goes on to explain some of the personal reasons for his views.

“My stepdaughter, whom Mollie loved so dearly, is Latina. Her sons — Mollie’s cherished nephews and my grandchildren — are Latino. That means I am Hispanic. I am African. I am Asian. I am European. My blood runs from every corner of the Earth because I am American. As an American, I have one tenet: to respect every citizen of the world and actively engage in the ongoing pursuit to form a more perfect union.”

“Given that, to knowingly foment discord among races is a disgrace to our flag. It incites fear in innocent communities and lends legitimacy to the darkest, most hate-filled corners of the American soul. It is the opposite of leadership. It is the opposite of humanity. It is heartless. It is despicable. It is shameful,” Tibbetts proclaimed forecefully.

The grieving father closes his editorial with a plea to make his daughter’s death a teachable moment.

We have the opportunity now to take heed of the lessons that Mollie, John McCain and Aretha Franklin taught — humanity, fairness and courage. For most of the summer, the search for Mollie brought this nation together like no other pursuit. There was a common national will that did transcend opinion, race, gender and geography. Let’s not lose sight of that miracle. Let’s not lose sight of Mollie.”

“Instead, let’s turn against racism in all its ugly manifestations both subtle and overt. Let’s turn toward each other with all the compassion we gave Mollie. Let’s listen, not shout. Let’s build bridges, not walls. Let’s celebrate our diversity rather than argue over our differences. I can tell you, when you’ve lost your best friend, differences are petty and meaningless.”

“My family remains eternally grateful to all those who adopted Mollie so completely and showered us with so much care, compassion and generosity. Please accept our desire to remain private as we share our loss. We love Mollie with all our hearts and miss her terribly. We need time.”

It takes an extraordinary person to transform their deepest sorrow to a message of public service and reconciliation. Rob Tibbetts may have lost his daughter and his best friend, but he’s gained the respect and admiration of millions of Americans who can now take his heartfelt and bitter-free response to his family’s loss as an example of how to respect others by not generalizing evil as an ethnically or racially specific trait. If only every American shared his intelligent and perceptive viewpoint.

Michelle Obama and George Bush just shared a heartwarming moment at McCain’s funeral that’s going viral

Sometimes, even the smallest moment in times of duress can help bring us together, and a weary and frustrated nation was treated to one of those magical moments this afternoon when former President George W. Bush passed former First Lady Michelle Obama a small piece of candy.

It may not be much, but the moment of unity between former First Families really struck a chord on social media among frustrated citizens who took solace in their friendliness and the kind gesture in a depressing time.

It’s a heartwarming reminder that our politicians are still capable of putting politics aside in times of grief and behaving with basic human decency towards each other; a breath of fresh air in an era characterized by hatred and contempt.

Here’s a small sample of what people had to say.

A source close to Melania just revealed her humiliation over McCain and Aretha Franklin’s funerals

Melania Trump should be used to it by now, but a source close to the First Lady says that she is “embarrassed” by her husband’s behavior that led to his being insulted at Aretha Franklin’s and Senator John McCain’s funerals, according to an exclusive report on HollywoodLife.com.

Citing a source with close access to Mrs. Trump, the publication says that Melania was mortified when she heard Reverend Al Sharpton’s statements at the podium at the late Queen of Soul’s funeral service where he indicated that her husband had a lot to learn from Aretha about the meaning of “respect” and slammed the president for his comment that Aretha once “worked for” him.

“Melania feels humiliated and embarrassed by the multiple Donald insults at the Aretha funeral,” the source said. “It makes Melania feel horrible that Donald is not welcome or invited to Aretha’s funeral as well as McCain’s funeral and then to hear about speakers making subtle jabs at her husband while speaking at Aretha’s funeral only makes things worse. Melania wishes more people liked her family and is constantly embarrassed by the public’s opinion of her husband and when people take shots at him and her family, it really stings.”

The article claims that Melania has been attempting to get her husband to dial back his vitriolic rhetoric, obviously embarrassed that his behavior directly flies in the face of her signature campaign to eliminate online bullying.

“Melania is constantly pleading with Donald to choose his words more carefully and tone it down when speaking in public, to the press or even in private,” the anonymous source said. “From the first time Melania heard what Donald said to Billy Bush about grabbing women’s privates to the President’s daily wild tweets, Melania is constantly monitoring, watching and dreading every word her husband speaks or tweets.”

While that description answers many questions about how the First Lady spends most of her days, it doesn’t explain how she endures it all. The article portrays Melania as “living in fear from tweet to tweet.”

“She fears what he will say next and is tired of the stress of worrying about what he will say or tweet,” the source explained. “Melania has begged him to slow down and be more careful with his words, but she is slowly giving up hope as Donald refuses to listen to her or anyone. He continues to do and say whatever he wants, and it is driving Melania mad.”

Unfortunately, it’s not just Melania who is affected by the president’s despicable behavior, the rest of us have to suffer through it as well, without the perks of being married to a wealthy and powerful, not to mention cruel and delusional, man in the White House.
